The Pipeworks, a craft beer bar, aimed to differentiate itself by establishing a unique identity. We developed a fresh brand design that reflects the bar's cosy atmosphere, craft beer offerings and target audience.

  • To understand the market landscape and target audience, thorough research and analysis was conducted. We started with market analysis where we studied craft beer industry trends and identified key players. Alongside this, we analysed the bar's location to gain insights into local preferences and demographics.

    A large focus was put on target audience analysis by conducting surveys, interviews, and holding focus groups with local customers. We also explored social media platforms and online communities locally to understand potential consumer preferences and interests.

  • Based on our research findings, a brand strategy was developed to align with The Pipeworks' objectives and target audience. A focus on brand positioning identified the unique selling points of The Pipeworks, such as its cosy atmosphere and curated craft beer selection. We positioned the bar as a welcoming space that caters to craft beer enthusiasts seeking a relaxed and intimate experience. 

    We developed a brand personality that embodies warmth, authenticity, and expertise in craft beer and spirits. We crafted a brand voice that strikes a balance between informative and approachable, reflecting the bar's friendly ambiance.

    By creating key messaging that highlights The Pipeworks' commitment to quality craft beer, knowledgeable staff, and community engagement it emphasised the bar's dedication to creating a space where customers can enjoy their favourite beers while fostering connections with fellow beer enthusiasts.

  • We engaged in naming sessions to generate potential names that capture the essence of The Pipeworks. We considered names that evoke the bar's unique beer offerings, craftsmanship, and the local history. There was an evaluation of each name based on availability (trademarks, domain names), originality, and alignment with the brand attributes.

    We narrowed down the list of potential names to a shortlist of the most promising options and conducted research to ensure that the chosen names were not already in use by other brands in the locality. There was an evaluation of the shortlisted names in focus groups to gather feedback from the target audience. We refined the names based on feedback, considering clarity, memorability, and the emotional response they elicit.

    We selected the final name for ‘The Pipeworks’ based on the insights gained from the previous sessions. The name ‘Pipeworks’ is a reference to the late 1800s when the South Wales railway changed Pontyclun into a burgeoning industrial town. The original Pipe works at the time helped expand the area alongside the Tin Plate Works and the Steam Joinery Company.

  • To visually communicate The Pipeworks' brand essence, a comprehensive visual identity was developed. We crafted a logo that embodies the history of the local area and the brand's cosy and craft beer-centric attributes. The Pipeworks logo features a chimney icon replacing the ‘I’ as a nod to the past. The job roles were tough and challenging which built a togetherness and sense of community amongst the workers. The Pipeworks harnesses this spirit to provide a place for sharing moments with friends and family.

  • Following the logo development, cohesive visual collateral was designed, including menus, coasters, and signage, to create a consistent brand experience. We utilised high-quality imagery showcasing craft beer, the bar's interior, and the friendly interactions among customers and staff.

    To successfully implement the brand design style, this was rolled out across the website and social media channels to maintain consistent messaging. We created engaging content that reflects the brand's personality and encourages interaction with the target audience.
